                     Why Can't I eat Multi Grains?

                      Some people react to certain breads. It really all boils down to which foods compromise the immune
                      system/digestion. Babies and people with a compromised digestive system will have difficulty digesting
                      harsh fibres. There is also the issue of chemical fumigants adhering to the brain. These chemicals can further
                      affect the digestion. Multi grain bread may contain a wider nutritional list but they also include a large range of

                How our digestive tract works:
                   Before allergy problems can be diagnosed there are often a number of things that could have gone wrong
                   along the bio-chemical pathway in the body. For example; food enters the mouth and is chewed and
                   swallowed, the food then goes through digestion in the stomach. It then passes into the small intestine
                   where nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. From there it goes into the Colon or large intestine
                   where mostly water is absorbed. If there is damage to the mucous membrane anywhere in the digestive
                   tract, it can allow undigested food components to get into the bloodstream. Once these foreign particles
                   have entered the bloodstream the immune system has a number of defence mechanisms to
                   remove/neutralise them.

Cat Flu For several weeks a European mature cat was suffering from heavy cat flu, with high amount of puss coming out of the eyes and nose, and high inflammations of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. He was treated with several different antibiotics without success. The inflammation and the pain were so bad that for three days the animal refused any food or water.
Treatment: Bioptron 2 Light Therapy for 6 minutes
Result: After initial fright due to the bright light and the noise of the fan, the cat stretched comfortably and started to purr. After the treatment the owner took the animal home and called shortly after to tell us that the cat spontaneously went to have a drink. The following day the cat was able to eat solid food again. The treatment was continued with the BIOPTRON 1 device for one week twice daily by the owner at home.
Within four weeks the sickness disappeared completely, with the exception of an occasional attack of sneezing, which produced a little puss each time.

Kashin the Elephant

Kashin is an Asian elephant at the Auckland Zoo, aged 31 at the time of these photos.She had suffered from severe arthritic pain in both feet for 15 years - not uncommon when you weigh 3.3 tons and you are a bit pigeon toed.Several years earlier a bone was removed from her right foot and the operational 'hole' was still there - some 4 to 5 cm deep. Due to the pain in her feet Kashin had spent a lot of time lying down and developed a 'bed sore' on her right cheek. On accepting our offer of help, the vet insisted that to give Bioptron a fair trial, all other treatments would be suspended. Using a B2 each foot was treated for 6 minutes, once a day. The sore and op wound were treated for the same period.
Within about 3 days the keepers reported a massive change in attitude - more responsive to commands, eating better and even playing with twigs and leaves. After 2 weeks an infrared imaging camera was used to check on the degree of inflammation in the feet and by comparison with earlier pictures had reduced considerably.
The operation wound healed up within 14 days, the bed sore after 21 days and the feet were declared clear after 2 months - a total of 8 hours light therapy. To this day Kashin still receives occasional treatment on the feet but there has been little if any return to her previous condition
Letter from the Zoo: As suggested the cheek sore, operation wound, and both front feet were treated twice a day for 6 - 8 minutes. Within the first week the sore on the cheek basically healed over completely and since then there has been a significant re-growth of underlying tissue. The operation wound is also showing that healing is taking place from within - periodic tests with cotton buds show that the wound depth has diminished.

It soon became apparent that the treatment was having a beneficial effect with regard to relieving the arthritic pain in Kashin's feet. There were significant behavioural changes with Kashin moving around a lot more freely negotiating the rocky terrain and hillsides that form part of her daily exercise regime with a lot more ease and gusto. A series of thermographs have been taken at intervals during the trial period and these have suggested that the blood flow in the arthritic area of the feet has been greatly improved. Larkspur's deep muscle injury 2 years ago approximately our Stallion Larkspur Connoisseur had a serious paddock injury whereby he suffered deep injury to his shoulder. Jessie’s severe back injury – Five slipped discs - After running down the hall to retrieve her ball My fox terrier Foxy suffered terrible pain The next day Jessie was even worse. Excess Acidity is a condition that weakens all body systems. Excess acidity forces the body to borrow minerals - including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium - from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body.

Nutrition is an essential component of overall health, yet many people do not understand the most basic principles of a healthy and balanced diet. Eating well will keep you trim, give you lots of energy and lower your risk of certain disorders such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and more.

There has been much discussion of the influence of alkaline foods (i.e. those foods that have an alkaline effect on the body) on overall health. The correct mix of alkaline and acid foods has long been established as a part of achieving a balanced diet. But what constitutes a balanced diet? Nutritionists recommend a wide variety of organic fruits, vegetables whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and sprouts in your daily diet. The combination of these foods has a net alkaline effect which is positive for good cellular health. It is also recommended that eating smaller meals more frequently will help keep your metabolism and blood sugar levels in a healthy range. As a guideline, you can include fruit and vegetables with each meal. The majority of current literature on the subject suggests that the best acid/alkaline balance should be 75-80% alkaline foods, and a maximum of 20-25% acid foods.

How is the reduction of acid going to assist you to reach optimum health?
Firstly, let’s look at what pH is and what it means in relation to human physiology.
pH stands for potential of hydrogen. The pH scale runs from 0-14. The acidity of a solution is measured in low readings and the alkalinity of a solution at the other end of the scale in high readings. The number 7 on the pH scale is considered to be pH neutral.

The human body has varying degrees of acidity. The following table shows the average pH values of some human body liquids.

When these balances are disrupted, the body reacts in ways detrimental to optimum health.
As body cells convert food into energy and perform their functions, they produce acid as waste. The body is designed to eliminate this weak acid via the respiratory system. However, the theory of acid-alkaline imbalance poses a sinister threat to health because most of the food we consume in our modern western diet produces what is known as acid ash – the material left after our bodies have taken what is needed from our food. This ash is much more acid in solution than that produced by the cellular processes and is eliminated via the renal system – the kidneys. So, as your body goes about eliminating this excess acid, it works harder and becomes stressed. Your blood, meanwhile, stays in its so called ‘healthy’ range (7.3 – 7.45) – or the range required to prevent death!

However, those that have studied the alkaline acid imbalance say that despite this ‘healthy range’, readings at the acidic end of that range can still have detrimental effects on our health.
Over acidity has been linked by many to all sorts of conditions that you may suffer from right now. One good measure of how hard your body is working to neutralize over acidity is to check your urine. A high urine acid content doesn’t mean that your body is as acid as the urine (remember that your body maintains itself between pH 6.0 and 7.5) it means that your body is eliminating large amounts of acid to maintain that balance.
In doing all this work your body uses calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium (alkaline minerals) to form a ‘buffer’ which prevents the eliminated acid from burning the urinary tract. If the body has plenty of these minerals in reserve everything works fine. However, as these reserves are depleted, the body takes minerals from the bones and vital organs to neutralize and eliminate the acid. Over a period of time, this weakens all systems of the body and overall health deteriorates.

Add to this increased pollutants in our environment and you can see the standard of our drinking water is deteriorating. Many health experts are now recommending that our drinking be filtered with a high quality filtration system. Foods that may be acidic upon eating (such as citrus) are actually alkaline ash forming, so it is important to note this. Fresh lemon squeezed into a glass of water is extremely alkalizing.

Healthy Fats - Essential Fatty Acids

Essential Fatty Acids are the "good fats" in the news. Some information hasn't changed since Julius Fast wrote his book -
The Omega-3 Breakthrough (Tucson, Arizona: The Body Press 1987, ISBN 0-89586-625-0). For example, good fats compete
with bad fats, so it's important to minimize the intake of trans fats and cholesterol (animal fat) while consuming enough good
fats. Also, good fats raise your HDL or "good cholesterol". One of the jobs of this High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or "good
cholesterol" is to grab your bad cholesterol, LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), and escort it to the liver where it is broken down
and excreted. In other words, these good fats attack some of the damage already done by the bad fats.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are necessary fats that humans cannot synthesize, and must be obtained through diet. EFAs are
long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids derived from linolenic(Omega3), linoleic (Omega 6), and oleic (Omega 9) acids.

There are two families of EFAs: Omega-3 and Omega-6. Omega-9 is necessary but "non-essential" because the body can
manufacture a modest amount on its own, provided the other essential EFAs are present.

EFAs support the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune, and nervous systems. The human body needs EFAs to manufacture and
     repair cell membranes, enabling the cells to obtain optimum nutrition and expel harmful waste products. One primary function of
     EFAs is the production of prostaglandins (hormone like lipid compounds), which regulate body functions such as heart rate, blood
     pressure, blood clotting, fertility, conception, and play a role in immune function by regulating inflammation and encouraging the
     body to fight infection. Essential Fatty Acids are also needed for proper growth in children, particularly for neural development and
     maturation of sensory systems, with male children having higher needs than females. Foetuses and breast-fed infants require an
     adequate supply of EFAs through the mother's dietary intake.

EFA deficiency is common, particularly Omega-3 deficiency. The ideal intake ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids is between
     1:1 to 4:1, with many only obtaining a ratio between 10:1 and 25:1. A healthy dietary intake for both Omega-3 & Omega-6 per adult
     per day, is 1.5 grams of each. One tablespoon of flaxseed oil can provide this amount, or larger amounts of other linolenic-rich foods.
     Because high heat destroys linolenic acid, cooking in linolenic-rich oils or eating cooked linolenic-rich fish is unlikely to provide a
     sufficient amount.

EFA deficiency and Omega 6/3 imbalance is linked with serious health conditions, such as heart attacks, cancer, insulin resistance,
asthma, lupus, schizophrenia, depression, postpartum depression, accelerated aging, stroke, obesity, diabetes, arthritis, ADHD,

Omega-3 (Linolenic Acid)

Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) is the principal Omega-3 fatty acid, which a healthy human will convert into eicosa-pentaenoic acid (EPA),
and later into docosa-hexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and the GLA synthesized from linoleic (Omega-6) acid are later converted into hormone-
like compounds known as eicosanoids, which aid in many bodily functions including vital organ function and intracellular activity.

Flaxseed oil (flaxseed oil has the highest linolenic content of any food), flaxseeds, flaxseed meal, hempseed oil,
      hempseeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, avocados, some dark leafy green vegetables
      (i.e. kale, spinach, purslane, mustard greens, collards, etc.), canola oil (cold-pressed and unrefined), soybean oil,
      wheat germ oil, salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, tuna.

A new source on the market from Australia is Kakadu cold pressed juice from bush food and other well known
     fruit & seeds. It contains flax seed and acaii both good sources of Omega 3 and 6. It contains less than 10% water
     making it the best juice as most juices are almost all water and little nutrient. It is taken as 10mls three times a day
     for its "time release" effects. The juice also contains the world's highest source of anti-oxidants (Tasmanian Pepper-
     berry - 700 times more than Blueberry) and worlds highest source of Vitamin C (Kakadu plum is 150 times more
     Vitamin C than that found in dried goji berries, 200 times that found in blackberries and 900 times that of oranges)

              Flax seeds

Canola oil is often used as a cheaper alternative to the healthier virgin olive and grape seed oils. Although Canola has at least some
     linolenic content, supermarket varieties of canola oil are often refined and processed with chemicals and heat, which destroy much of its
     linolenic acid. Cold-pressed, unrefined Canola oil is a healthier type of Canola (sometimes pricier than virgin olive oil), and found primarily in
     health food stores and specialty markets. The word "canola" is derived from "Canadian oil", as Canola was developed in Canada from the
     rape plant. Rape is a plant in the mustard family, and its rapeseed oil has at times been illegally blended with olive oil, particularly in Europe,
     to cheapen olive oil production costs. Although rapeseed oil is high in linolenic acid, it can make humans seriously ill if enough is consumed,
     and olive oil cheapened with rapeseed oil has a history of severely sickening its consumers. (Ever feel itchy after eating commercial brands of
     peanut butter? Check the label -- it probably contains rapeseed oil.) Canola was developed to eliminate chemicals toxic to humans in rapeseed
     oil, thus creating an inexpensive oil with linolenic acid. Unlike olive and flaxseed oil, both known to the ancients and used as mankind evolved,
     Canola is a recent oil, and its long-term effects on humans are not yet known.

Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid)

Linoleic Acid is the primary Omega-6 fatty acid. A healthy human with good nutrition will convert linoleic
acid into gamma linolenic acid {GLA), which will later by synthesized, with EPA from the Omega-3 group,
into eicosanoids.

Omega-6 may improve diabetic neuropathy, rheumatoid arthritis, PMS, skin disorders (e.g. psoriasis /eczema),
and aid in cancer treatment.

Although most of us obtain an excess of linoleic acid, often it is not converted to GLA because of metabolic
     problems caused by diets rich in sugar, alcohol, or trans fats from processed foods, as well as smoking, stress,
     pollution, aging, viral infections, and other illnesses such
     as diabetes. It is best to eliminate these factors when possible, but some prefer to supplement with GLA-rich foods. Foods which contain
     Omega 6 include: flax seeds (may be cold pressed), borage oil, black currant seed oil, flax seed oil, Acaii, evening primrose oil, .grape seed
     oil, pumpkin seed oil, pine nits, pistachio nuts, sunflower seeds (raw), olive oil, olives, chestnut oil, chicken among many others.
    Corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, and cottonseed oils are also sources of linoleic acid, but are refined and may be nutrient-deficient when sold in stores.

Omega-9 (Oleic Acid)

Essential but technically not an EFA, because the human body can manufacture a limited amount, provided essential EFAs are present.

Monounsaturated oleic acid lowers heart attack risk and arteriosclerosis, and aids in cancer prevention.
Found in foods:

Olive oil (extra virgin or virgin), olives, avocados, almonds, peanuts, sesame oil, pecans, pistachio nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, etc.

One to two tablespoons of extra virgin or virgin olive oil per day should provide sufficient oleic acid for adults. However, the "time-released"
effects of obtaining these nutrients from nuts and other whole foods is thought to be more beneficial than consuming the entire daily amount via
a single oil dose.

Food tips

High heat, light, and oxygen destroy EFAs, so when consuming foods for their EFA content, try to avoid cooked or heated forms. For example,
raw nuts are a better source than roasted nuts. cold pressed Kakadu Juice. Don't use flaxseed oil for cooking, and never re-use any type of oil.

Replace hydrogenated fats (like margarine), cholesterol-based fats (butter/dairy products), and poly-saturated fats (common cooking oils) with
healthy EFA-based fats when possible. For example, instead of margarine or butter on your warm (not hot) vegetables, use flaxseed and/or extra
virgin olive oils with salt. (This tastes similar to margarine, as margarine is just hydrogenated oil with salt.)

In many recipes calling for vegetable shortening, replacing the shortening with half as much virgin olive oil, and a very small pinch of extra salt,
often yields similar results.

Adding virgin olive oil to salads instead of supermarket salad oil is another healthy change.

Replace oily snack foods, like potato chips and corn chips, with nuts and seeds.

Extra virgin olive oil or grape seed oil are best to use for cooking oil, as they withstand high heat well.
