Sunlight
is “full spectrum” light. Though we see it as white or
sometimes golden, it is really composed of a range of
colours combined together known as the visible spectrum. The
colours are made composed of “frequencies” of light, and

The
art of healing with colour goes back to Ancient Egyptians and
Greeks who used the Hermetic tradition of using
coloured minerals, stones, crystals, salves, and dyes as

Light when applied
to the skin causes a chemical reaction (photo-oxidation) in
blood circulating, effectively lessening
bilirubin levels with the aid of the liver.
Second is light
energy entering through the eyes. A common misconception is
that the eyes function solely in the capacity of visual
imaging. Additional light exposure is well-known to cause a
beneficial change in "seasonal affective disorder" (SAD), a

Animals

The Body Clock:
A circadian rhythm is
roughly a 24-hour cycle in the
biochemical, physiological or
behavioral processes of living
entities, including plants,
animals, fungi etc. The term
"circadian", comes from the
Latin circa, "around,"
and diem or dies,
"day", meaning literally
"approximately one day." The
formal study of biological
temporal rhythms such as daily,
tidal, weekly, seasonal, and
annual rhythms, is called
chronobiology. Circadian rhythms
are endogenously generated, and
can be entrained by external
cues, called Zeitgebers, the
primary one of which is
daylight. These rhythms allow
organisms to anticipate and
prepare for precise and regular
environmental changes.
UC Irvine researchers have discovered that circadian
rhythms regulate energy levels in cells. The findings have
far-reaching implications, from providing greater insights
into the bond between the body's day-night patterns and
metabolism to creating new ways to treat cancer, diabetes,
obesity and a host of related diseases.
Distinguished Professor and Chair of
Pharmacology, Sassone-Corsi and his
colleagues found that the proteins
involved with the body clock and
metabolism are intrinsically linked
and dependent upon each other. "Our
circadian rhythms and metabolism are
closely partnered to ensure that
cells function properly and remain
healthy," He said. "This discovery
opens a new window for us to
understand how these two fundamental
processes work together, and it can
have a great impact on new
treatments for diseases caused by
cell energy deficiencies."
Circadian rhythms of 24 hours govern
fundamental physiological functions
in almost all organisms. The
circadian clocks are the essential
time-tracking systems in the body
that anticipate environmental
changes and adapt to the appropriate
time of day. Disruption of these
rhythms can profoundly influence
human health and has been linked to
obesity, diabetes, insomnia,
depression, coronary heart diseases
and cancer.
